Welcome to the Ridwares Women's Institute
At Ridwares W I we are a thriving and very active WI (Women’s Institute), established in May 2013, with a mix of traditional and modern outlooks. The classic image of the WI as being ‘Jam and Jerusalem’ doesn’t necessarily apply in 2023! We meet monthly and endeavour to provide a good mix of meetings such as excellent speakers, food tasting, crafts and activities, as well as working on local and national WI campaigns.
Our monthly meetings are normally held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at Ridware Village Hall. Doors open at 7:30 pm for the official meeting and main activity followed by tea, coffee and biscuits. We usually finish between 9:30pm and 9.45 pm. Refreshments are available at each meeting, with our members taking turns to host. We also have volunteers to wash up and tidy at the end of each meeting. Each meeting we hold a raffle, where the prize is normally related to the meeting in some way. Tickets are 50p. Items on the Trade Table have been made by members to help raise funds for the group.
Guests are very welcome to come to a WI meeting, and you can attend around three meetings as a visitor before we ask you to think about joining our WI.
We work hard to secure activities for each of the monthly meetings. During the year we also organise and get involved in a lot of additional events.
We run a thriving ‘Take a Break Café’ on the first Tuesday of every month where friends and neighbours can enjoy tea and coffee and either a bacon bap or toasted teacake whilst they catch up with the news. news. Our popular range of jams, marmalades and pickles are on sale along with a selection of homemade cards.
